Colombo
On arrival in Sri Lanka, you will be met and assisted by our Airport Representative. Your very own driver will the bring you (and your group) to Colombo, the capital of our country. After checking in to your hotel, you can relax and recover from your (potential) jet lag. If you have some spare time, your chauffeur will happily show you around the city and introduce you to its sights and sounds.
Kurulu Kele Bird Sanctuary
After breakfast, we will head for the hill capital of Kandy. On the way to this marvellous city, we will stop at the Kurulu Kele bird sanctuary. Here you can spot Black-Capped Bulbul, Ceylon Hanging Parakeet, Ceylon Green Pigeon, Yellow-Fronted Barbet, Ceylon Spur Fowl, and many more species. Bring your binoculars!
Udawatta Kele
Udawatta Kele, located North of Kandy lake, is an 103 hectares eco-tourism site. The park was once a forbidden forest called Uda Wasala Watte (the garden above the royal palace), in the time of the Kandyan Kingdom. You will find a wide variety of bird species in the park, such as Yellow Fronted Barbet, Black Capped Bilbul, Emerald Dove, Sri Lankan Hanging Parrot, Chestnut Headed Bee Eater, the Three Toed Kingfisher, and the Sri Lanka Hill Myna.
Knuckles
WThe Knuckels forest conservation expands the Matale and Kandy districts. The mist enveloped mountain peaks set a heavenly scenery across the forest, and you will enjoy an exclusive mix of flora and fauna in this wonderful and mesmerizing part of our country.
Knuckles Forest Reserve
Wake up early, and leave for Knuckles Forest for some more bird watching. You can spot Yellow- Fronted Barbet, Sri Lankan White Eye, Black Headed Bulbul, Spot Wing Thrush, Dusk Blue Flycatcher, Brown Capped Babbler, Sri Lankan Warbler, White Faced Starling, Sri Lankan Grackle, Small Barbet, Sri Lankan Lorikeet, amongst many other species. Additionally, a visit to the forest is the ideal location to visit and look into traditional small mountain houses. The Knuckles mountain ranges showcase steep slopes, cloud covered peaks, cool mountain streams and high cascades.
Nuwara Eliya
We will continue our trip to the hill country of Nuwara Eliya. This area is the coldest in Sri Lanka, so dress accordingly. Nuwara Eliya is rich with lush green forests and boasts some amazing bio diversity. Gregory’s lakes, Haggala National Park, and numerous beautiful waterfalls add to the splendour of the area. The Queen Victoria Park is fantastic for bird watching. You can spot the Kashmir Flycatcher, Indian Blue Robin, Dull Blue Flycatcher, Yellow Eared Bulbul, which migrate from the Indian Himalayans.
Horton Plains
The Horton Plains is considered one of the most picturesque locations in the country. It is a beautiful mountainous nature park, situated some 2200 meters above sea level. A wide variety of animals can be seen here, including leopards, black napped hares, otters, and giant squirrels.
Yala National Park
After breakfast, we will take down from the cool hills into the jungle of Yala. On our way there, we will stop at the Rawana Waterfalls, where you can go for a quick swim if you want to. This truly is a sight to behold, set against an amazing backdrop of mountains and valleys. Bring your camera! When we arrive in Yala, you will first check in to your hotel and have the opportunity to freshen up. In the afternoon, a local guide will take you on an adventurous jeep safari in Yala National Park.
The RUK Area
Today we will visit the so called RUK Area: Rekawa, Ussangoda, and Kalametiya. All locations are known for their bio diversity, and Kalametiya is one of the oldest bird sanctuaries in Sri Lanka.
Bundala
The Bundala National Park and its visitor centre are worth our visit, because it informs its visitors about the cultural history of the area.
Hambanthota
We will check in to our hotel in Hambantota where you can either stay and rest, or head back to Bundala National Park and enjoy some more bird watching.
Udawalawe
The area of Udawalawe is teaming with wildlife. The Walawe river runs through the jungle, and herds of wild elephants are a guaranteed sight along its banks. Greater Flamingo, Grey Heron, Sandpipers, Jacana, Painted Stork, Black Necked Stork, and various Parakeets are among the many birds you will see here.
Rathnapura
Our next destination is Ratnapura, where we will check into our hotel and rest for the evening.
Sinharaja
The amazing Sinharaja rain forest is home to many endemic medicinal plants, birds, insects, mammals, and reptiles. You will spend several hours here, hiking through the jungle, bird watching, and seeing local sites.
The area of Udawalawe is teaming with wildlife. The Walawe river runs through the jungle, and herds of wild elephants are a guaranteed sight along its banks. Colombo
Today you will have all the time to explore the capital of Sri Lanka: Colombo. Head into town for some shopping or sightseeing. Grab a tuktuk and head out to the bustling area of Pettah. You can visit the National Museum there, or visit local markets to find a wide variety of local products and gifts. Take some of the various Sri Lankan cultures home with you, to remember your visit to our beautiful country.
