Negombo
On arrival in Sri Lanka, you will be met and assisted by our Airport Representative. Your very own driver will the bring you (and your group) to the fishing village of Negombo. After checking in to your hotel, you can relax and recover from your (potential) jet lag. If you have some spare time, your chauffeur will happily show you around Negombo, and its beaches and local sights.
Dambulla
After an early breakfast, your driver will help you check out of your hotel and you will leave for Dambulla. A world heritage site, Dambulla is the largest remaining cave temple in Sri Lanka, built on a 600 feet high rock. In prehistoric times, before the arrival of Buddhism in Sri Lanka, these caves were used as a dwelling place and there are about 80 of them in the area.
Sigiriya
Today’s journey continues to the citadel of Sigiriya. The citadel was built by King Kashyapa in the 5 th century. The entire city complex is protected by a deep moat. Many explorers visited the citadel in the 6 th century, and they recorded its beauty, the abundant Sigiriya fresco’s, and the impressive Ketapath Pawura (Mirror Wall). Sigiriya is the most visited site in Sri Lanka, and rightly so. It is surrounded by the remains of a city complex, with gardens, defensive structures, water reservoirs, and many buildings. Even in the rainy season, the water gardens are stunning and overwhelming, with their beautiful fountains.
Habarana
On arrival in Sri Lanka, you will be met and assisted by our Airport Representative. Your very own driver will the bring you (and your group) to Habarana, a small village with excellent hotels. Due to its central location, Habarana is the perfect place from which all ancient city sites can be reached. After check in at your hotel, you will have a well-deserved leisurely evening to yourself.
Hiriwaduna Village
After breakfast, we will head down to the village of Hiriwaduna. Here, you can experience the simple lifestyle of a Sri Lankan fishing village. Your lunch will be made and served by a local village family, sharing their delicious local cuisine with you, served on a lotus leave. Don’t forget to take a ride on a bullock cart!!
Polonnaruwa
After breakfast, you will head to Polonnaruwa, the 11 th century ancient capital of Sri Lanka. Polonnaruwa has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and history enthusiasts can relish here all day long, amidst ancient palaces, monasteries, and historical monuments. You will go back to your hotel in Habarana in the evening.
Kandy
Enjoy your breakfast and head out to the world heritage site of Kandy. On the way, we will visit a spice and herbal garden in Matale. Located in a beautiful landscape, filled with hills and forests, you can relax at your hotel in Kandy, or visit the famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth, or the Dalada Maligawa: the greatest Buddhist shrine in Sri Lanka. It is also a great opportunity to see traditional Sri Lankan dancers and drummers perform.
Kandy/ Kitulgala
After breakfast, you will head for the Peradeniya Botanical Garden, through the Peradeniya University premises. At the end of this part of the trip, you will visit a local silk factory and a gem museum. Kitulgala is a small village, and a real hotspot for white water rafting and trekking on the Kelani river.
Nuwaraeliya
We will be on our way to the heart of the Sri Lankan tea production region: Nuwara Eliya. It is sometimes called ‘Little England’. Spend the rest of your day in this beautiful area, and enjoy all the spectacles around the city.
Horton Plains / Nuwara Eliya
After an early breakfast, you will leave for the highest plateau in the country: The Horton Plains. This incredibly scenic region offers some of the most stunning hiking trails, with an amazing photo opportunity around every corner. The misty climate and high winds make for a stunning scenery, and the most amazing feature of the Horton Plains is the spectacular view from ‘The World’s End’. After you hike, you will return to Nuwara Eliya, where you can enjoy some sightseeing in the city in the afternoon, or visit Gregory’s Lake, the Gold Club of Nuwara Eliya, and other beautiful landmarks.
Ella
After your breakfast, we will head to Ella town. The train ride to Ella is one of the most beautiful journeys Sri Lanka has to offer. Let the landscape amaze you, sit back, and enjoy.
Yala
After your arrival at Ella, we will continue our trip to Yala. After checking in to your hotel, you are free to wonder around, or spend a quiet evening and rest.
Yala National Park
After an early rise, you will head out with your guide in a private jeep for a safari around Yala National Park. The park is famous for its wide variety of wildlife: jackal, spotted deer, the sloth bear, Sambar, wild buffalo, mongoose, crocodiles, and of course wild elephants. The park is also home to a large population of the elusive Sri Lankan leopard, which is very commonly seen strolling around the green jungle.
Bentota
After breakfast, we will prepare for quite a drive all the way to Bentota. Along the way, there will be plenty of opportunities to stop of course. Bentota is located on one of the finest beaches of the South West coast. You can spend the afternoon on the beach, listening to the sound of the Indian Ocean, sunbathe, enjoy the beach, and go for a swim. Locally, there are plenty opportunities to arrange for some surfing or blue water fishing.
