Colombo
On arrival in Sri Lanka, you will be met and assisted by our Airport Representative. Your very own driver will the bring you (and your group) to Colombo, the capital of our country. After checking in to your hotel, you can relax and recover from your (potential) jet lag. If you have some spare time, your chauffeur will happily show you around the city and introduce you to its sights and sounds.
Tangalle
Enjoy your breakfast and then head out to Tangalle. Tangalle is famous for its wide beaches, but even more famous for its wide variety of colourful fish and its abundance of sea turtles. Enjoy some snorkelling and join these amazing animals in the clear blue water.
Mulkirigala
The Mulkirigala Temple is located on top of a huge, high pitched boulder, which is covered by a thick forest. The climb up to the rock temple is completely worth it, as soon as you experience the amazing view of the area. The high rising rock temple was the idea of King Kavantissa. You will also visit the Rajamaha vihara, which is built in an original Kandyan style. This temple is tiled with Dutch floor tiles, and supported by wooden pillars. Throughout the years, it has become the home of many ancient texts and scriptures.
Udawalawa National Park
This morning, you will have the option of either staying in Tangalle and enjoy the beach, or go to Udawalawa National Park. The park is located in the Southern part of Sri Lanka, and it is well known for its abundance of birds and other animals. For instance, herds of wild elephants are guaranteed during your safari. The park is also a sanctuary for water buffalo, spotted or barking deer, wild boar, jackal, samba, mongoose and many species of reptiles, insects, and fish. The park also boasts a population of the more elusive leopard.
Mirissa Beach – whale watching
After an early breakfast, we will make for Mirissa Beach. You will head out into the Indian Ocean for a 5 hour boat trip. During this trip you will spot sperm and blue whales, orcas, spinner dolphins, bottlenose dolphins, striped dolphins, and Risso’s dolphins. The on-board guide will help you identify all the different species you will encounter, should you need assistance. Weather permitting, you can experience some of the most spectacular sunsets over the Indian Ocean, before going back to your hotel in Tangalle.
Tangalle
If you wish, you can explore the wide range of tourist attractions around Tangalle by TukTuk , or spend the day on the white beaches. There are plenty of fishing, snorkelling and / or diving opportunities which can be arranged during these days.
Yala National Park
After an early rise, you will head out to Yala National Park. There you will enjoy a private jeep safari around Yala National Park, with your own guide. The park is famous for its wide variety of wildlife: jackal, spotted deer, the sloth bear, Sambar, wild buffalo, mongoose, crocodiles, and of course wild elephants. The park is also home to a large population of the elusive Sri Lankan leopard, which is very commonly seen strolling around the green jungle.
Yala
The village of Maligawala is well known for the 12 meter high limestone Buddha statue, which dates back to the 7 th century. You will also pay a visit to the 10 meter high, limestone statue of the Bodhisatwas Buddha in Avalokitheshwara. After a quick break, we will continue our trip to the sacred city of Katharagama. This city has long been a destination for many pilgrims from all over the world. The Katharagama Vihara Complex includes shrines to the gods Katharagama, Vishnu, and Saman. It also boasts a Bo tree and a Buddhist monastery. You will also see the Kiriwehera and Mahadevalaya temples.
Nuwaraeliya
We will be on our way to the heart of the Sri Lankan tea production region: Nuwara Eliya. It is sometimes called ‘Little England’. On the way there, we will stop at the breath taking Rawana Ella Waterfalls. Spend the rest of your day in this beautiful area, and enjoy all the spectacles around the city.
Horton Plains
After breakfast, you will leave for the highest plateau in the country: The Horton Plains. This incredibly scenic region offers some of the most stunning hiking trails, with an amazing photo opportunity around every corner. The plains are considered the be the only national park in Sri Lanka that allows visitors to walk around freely on their own throughout the park. After you hike, you will return to Nuwara Eliya, where you can enjoy some sightseeing in the city in the late afternoon.
Negombo
After an early rise, we will leave for the fishing village of Negombo. You have the choice to go either via Kandy, or via Kitulgala.
Temple of the tooth relic (Kandy)
The temple is located in the heart of Kandy city. The sacred tooth (of Buddha) came to Sri Lanka some 16 centuries ago. The temple boasts some amazing frescoes and carvings. The sacred tooth itself is kept inside a room called ‘Vedahitina Maligaya’.
Elephant orphanage
After breakfast, you will travel to the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala. It was established in 1975 to treat and look after orphaned baby elephants. Currently, it holds the world’s largest captive elephant herd, which is used for breeding purposes.
Negombo
Your chauffeur will happily show you around Negombo, and its beaches and local sights. Enjoy a boat ride along the Dutch Canals, visit some Dutch churches, and then rest at your hotel. Or enjoy these days relaxing at the beach!
The area of Udawalawe is teaming with wildlife. The Walawe river runs through the jungle, and herds of wild elephants are a guaranteed sight along its banks. Greater Flamingo, Grey Heron, Sandpipers, Jacana, Painted Stork, Black Necked Stork, and various Parakeets are among the many birds you will see here.
Colombo
Today you will have all the time to explore the capital of Sri Lanka: Colombo. Head into town for some shopping or sightseeing. Grab a tuktuk and head out to the bustling area of Pettah. You can visit the National Museum there, or visit local markets to find a wide variety of local products and gifts. Take some of the various Sri Lankan cultures home with you, to remember your visit to our beautiful country.
