Negombo
On arrival in Sri Lanka, you will be met and assisted by our Airport Representative. Your very own driver will the bring you (and your group) to the fishing village of Negombo. After checking in to your hotel, you can relax and recover from your (potential) jet lag. If you have some spare time, your chauffeur will happily show you around Negombo, and its beaches and local sights. Enjoy a boat ride along the Dutch Canals, visit some Dutch churches, and then rest at your hotel.
Sigiriya
Today’s journey continues to the citadel of Sigiriya. The citadel was built by King Kashyapa in the 5 th century. The entire city complex is protected by a deep moat. Many explorers visited the citadel in the 6 th century, and they recorded its beauty, the abundant Sigiriya fresco’s, and the impressive Ketapath Pawura (Mirror Wall). Sigiriya is the most visited site in Sri Lanka, and rightly so. It is surrounded by the remains of a city complex, with gardens, defensive structures, water reservoirs, and many buildings. Even in the rainy season, the water gardens are stunning and overwhelming, with their beautiful fountains.
Polonnaruwa
After breakfast, you will head to Polonnaruwa, the 11 th century ancient capital of Sri Lanka. Polonnaruwa has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and history enthusiasts can relish here all day long, amidst ancient palaces, monasteries, and historical monuments.
Nilaveli
After breakfast, we will drive to the beautiful Nilaveli Beach, which is famous for its stretched out sandy beaches, and ice blue waters. The waters around Nilaveli are ideal for snorkelling and diving. You will spend a total of two days here.
Minneriya
We will leave for Minneriya after breakfast, and have plenty of stops along the way. In Minneriya, you will get the chance to see wild elephants, spotted deer, Samba, leopards, and sloth bears during a jeep safari around the park.
Arugam Bay
Arugam Bay, on the East coast of Sri Lanka, is known as one the top 10 surf spots in the world. The wide beach and amazing surf is ideal for those who are really into water sports. The surfing season lasts from April to October, and the bay attracts visitor and surfers from all over the world during this season.
Kandy
Enjoy your breakfast and head out to the world heritage site of Kandy. On the way, we will visit a spice and herbal garden in Matale. Located in a beautiful landscape, filled with hills and forests, you can relax at your hotel in Kandy, or start exploring this former capital of Sri Lanka. You will have to visit the famous Temple of the Sacred Tooth, or the Dalada Maligawa: the greatest Buddhist shrine in Sri Lanka. It is also a great opportunity to see traditional Sri Lankan dancers and drummers perform.
Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage
After breakfast, you will travel to the elephant orphanage in Pinnawala. It was established in 1975 to treat and look after orphaned baby elephants. Currently, it holds the world’s largest captive elephant herd, which is used for breeding purposes.After the visit to Pinnawala, we will continue our journey to Colombo.
